How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows 11

Windows 11 does not natively support Apple's HEIC photo format. Here are the best ways to open and convert HEIC files.

Why Windows Can't Open HEIC

Apple introduced HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) with iOS 11. It uses HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) compression to create files roughly half the size of JPEG at the same quality. Windows lacks built-in HEIC support because the codec requires licensing.

Note: Photos will take up more storage space on your iPhone.

Install iCloud for Windows and enable iCloud Photos. Your HEIC photos will sync but still remain in HEIC format on your PC.
